"You see us how you want to see us. In the simplest terms and most convenient definitions, what we
found out is that we're all a brain, and an athlete, and a basketcase, and a princess, and a criminal, cor-
rect?"

The Breakfast Club

During our school years this class has come together, realizing that we are all pretty similar in many
ways. We are all good at some things, not so good at others, and sometimes even a little bit crazy.

While we were here, we experienced some of the best times we will ever have in our lives. Hopefully,
though the Class of '92 will go its separate ways, we will all have learned to appreciate the good times.
As the immortal Ferris Bueller said, "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a
while, you could miss it."

This yearbook is a record of our friends, memories, and events of the past four years. It is a record of
what was good and not so good, what was fun and not so fun, what we will always remember and what we
chose to forget. Twenty years from now, when we have become whatever it is that we are to become, we
may be cleaning out the attic and come across this forgotten book and remember the way we used to be
in 1992. We'll look back upon our old friends and the carefree times we thought would last forever. We'll
wonder when the arrogant, carefree kid disappeared and the responsible adult formed in its place.
Maybe we'll wonder when we started to say some of the things we hated to hear our own parents saying.
Then we'll close the book, maybe laugh a little, put it back in its place, and go on with our lives.

But for now, while we're still young, carefree, and arrogant; before we go out into the real world; while
it's just us and the friends we feel will be there forever; as we look at this book each of us should ask our-
selves ....

"Was it good for you?"

Principal, Wilmington High School 1992

Words From Mr. Fleming

III

Dear Members of the Class of 1992,

For the rest of your lives your yearbook will serve you as a
repository for some of your most treasured memories.

The years will roll by bringing love, frustration, success,
happiness, and inevitably some measure of pain and you
will wonder how you have become what you are and at times
why you must deal with your particular lot in life.

To sit in the face of that wonder with your book and reflect
on the images and accomplishments of your high school

years often eases many of
the above anxieties and
questions because memo-
ries have a way of becoming
more pleasant as they move
further and further into your
past.

Wilmington High School
feels it has prepared you
well for the future. It has ex-
pected you to fulfill competi-
tive, aesthetic, scholastic,
and athletic standards and if
you choose to you have met
the challenges.

Your teachers have urged
you to think and create and
your counselors have advo-
cated for you as you struggled to accommodate their wish-
es. Your principal, whose job it is to create the best possible
learning environment with available resources, has tried his

best to fulfill that responsibility.

Your parents provided you with a first class facility in
tough economic times and supported you through so many
difficult adventures as you tried one, then another, of the
many avenues that must be explored if someone is to grow.

Never forget that they need your love every bit as much as
you need theirs. The love I am speaking about, incidentally,
is a willingness to see and seek "goodness" in another no
matter what the circumstances of a relationship.

May the God of your choice bless all of you every day of
your lives and may each of you do everything in your power
to make certain the wind is always at your back.

Sincerely,

Paul T. Fleming
Principal

Mr. Dick Scanlon

The senior class is proud to have chosen Mr. Dick Scanlon as 1992s Teacher of the Year.
This is no new honor for this veteran winner, but that should show students that Mr. Scanlon is
an exceptional teacher. Mr. Scanlon is more than a teacher, and he is more than a coach, he is
a friend and a counselor to all students. He sees kids as respectable people, and is never
judgemental or condescending. Mot many people of his ripe age can still understand and
communicate with such social deviants as high school students but Dick, err, Mr. Scanlon is
different. Students find his door and ears open any time they have a problem or just have a
good joke or story to tell.

His popularity also comes from his love and appreciation for good practical jokes. In an
environment with a very narrow margin on what is funny and what mandates I.S.S., Mr. Scanlon
is a refreshing soul in the halls of W.H.S. He has maintained a sense of humor under difficult
circumstances, never has Mr. Scanlon missed an opportunity for a good joke.

Aside from his personal qualities, Mr. Scanlon is an excellent teacher. Teaching is a very
difficult job. Trying to hold the attention of twenty-five high school students for more than five
minutes is nearly impossible, but with his incredible sense of humor, enthusiasm, and hilari-
ous stories to go with his lessons, there is never a dull moment in Mr.
Scanlon's class. He conducts one of the classes to which students actual-
ly look forward.

The Class of 1992 would like to express our sincere thanks to Mr.
Scanlon for all the help, fun, knowledge, and dedication he has given us
throughout our four year sentence, um, our four years of high school
that is!

Wilmington High School Alumni

While the graduates of 1992 are leaving the hallowed halls of WHS, many
former graduates have remained. They work in various capacities but all
share the experience of having first come to the high school as students.

If you were to look at past yearbooks you would learn a lot about WHS
and some of the people you see every day. For example, Mr. Fay got his
first taste of policy making as class president. When he graduated he was
voted class optimist, a good trait for a superintendent today.

The WHS yearbook used to be called The Hourglass and is a permanent
record of the life and times of its students. Do you know which of your
teachers was a cheerleader and class treasurer? Which teacher was voted
Hottest Temper in his class? Do you know whose hobby was basketweav-
ing one-handed under water? Who has always been interested in "stu-
dents who have an interest" but whose favorite subject was not always
English? Can you guess who always enjoyed office machines? Or who
always wanted to be a teacher but not in his present field?

Did you realize students used to walk the corridors in single file? Or that
the course offerings are more diverse than they were when your teachers
were students? Are you aware that the industrial arts area used to be a
barn in an apple orchard? Each yearbook is a chronicle of its characters.
How many of this year's graduates will someday walk these halls again?

The meaning of friendship is the sharing of laughter and tears.

We have been through these all in our many years.

For the person you are, I should describe a beautiful star.

So full of hope and life.

You've Quided me with your smile.

It never steered me wrong.

This is why my love for you will always bum strong.

Our friendship has no boundries

It will never end

This is why I consider you my greatest friend.

now that our worlds are starting to drift apart,

I'll promise you this,

Rememberance is in the heart.

Stars are rays of glittering light.

Stars are the most beautiful things.

Stars hold both hope and life.

This is why you'll always be my shining star.

CLASS HISTORY

We arrived in September of 1988. We were two families from
opposite ends of town, and on that day, we became one. We were
there to witness the senior sit-in, and suffered through the "I"
period. The girl's basketball, Softball, and soccer teams all ad-
vanced to the state tournaments and the girl's field hockey team
was the MVC Champ. But, we must have all been absent on the
day of the Freshman-Senior Buddy Breakfast.

We returned the next year as sophomores to find some
changes. There was no more "1" period and we had a homeroom
period at the beginning of the day. Our Sophomore-Semi, I mean
Half-Way Dance, was held at the Knights-oops, 1 mean the gym-oh
no! I mean, the cafe on April 27. After much debate with the
administration we were finally allowed to go to Riverside Park to
end off the year.

We returned again as juniors. The boy's varsity soccer team
became the north Sectional Champs. The boy's varsity hockey
team and the girl's varsity field hockey team both advanced to
state tournaments. On January 16, 1991, the Allied forces de-
clared war on Iraq and our country wholeheartedly supported our
troops to victory. On May 17 we held our prom at the Hillview
Country Club and had a great time at Wingasheik the next day.
Doug Lanzillo and Tara Gallant were King and Queen. We "sat in"
out on the common to protest budget cuts, but I guess they
weren't listening.

Which brings us to senior year. It started off with a bang. Laid-off
teachers were brought back and classes were cut and divided to
accommodate this change. We were told that the senior prom had
to be earlier this year so we wouldn't have "problems'' like they
had last year. Homecoming went great and we chose Derrick
Stokes and Katy Palm as King and Queen. Our football team
defeated Tewksbury at the Thanksgiving Game, and on that day,
hopefully, we started a new tradition. In March, our "92" Day Party
was held at the Sons of Italy followed the next day by the "senior-
skip day". On April 9, Mr. Joyce's English class performed "Sim-
ply Speaking-The Joy of Language" to an almost filled newly
renovated Barrows Auditorium. As senior year came to a close, we
held our senior prom at the Danversport Yacht Club where Brian
Oxman and Kim Russo were named King and Queen. After anoth-
er battle with the front offices, senior sign-out was changed back
to May 15, and on that day we said good-bye to our friends and
faculty remaining at_WHS. Academic Convocation was held on
June 5 and Graduation followed on June 7, 1992. On this day we
said good-bye to our classmates and looked ahead to our mysteri-
ous futures. The class of 1992 withstood its share of problems
and survived. We will always remain friends and we will never
forget our 4-year sentence- 1 mean education - at the little prison- 1
mean school on Church Street.

THIS BOOK IS DEDICATED TO THE
MEMORY OF MR. PAUL DOMIGAn.

Paul was unique. His sense of humor was one of his most engaging
characteristics, lie had a high regard for his students, a regard which
manifested itself in the manner in which he cajoled them, joked with
them, and prodded them to be better than they thought they could be.
His treatment of the girls in his class as he complimented them on their
appearances (especially when they wore dresses) and his insistence
that they be treated with respect by male class members, was clear
evidence of the value he placed in each individual, no day goes by
when we are not reminded in some way of his candor, his ready wit, or
his love of people. We miss him.

Math Department

As I was sitting in room 206 talking to my friends, an announce-
ment came on. 1 thought that it was another announcement about
someone breaking the rules. It wasn't. It was an announcement
that one of the best teachers at Wilmington High School, Mr. Paul
Domigan, had died. Mr. Domigan was a wonderful man. He was a
teacher who showed he cared and wouldn't hesitate to tell you
how he felt. He also loved to joke around with you. He was always
there for all his students and loved us very much. The memories
of Mr. Domigan will always be with the students of Wilmington
High School.

A Wish For The Class Of
1992

It has been my pleasure to have been
associated with you for the last 4 years.
You have completed a challenging time in
your lives. To gain all the wisdom needed
for a successful life, 12 years of education
is not enough. But hopefully you leave with
the necessary tools to allow you to grow
intellectually, either by formal education or
other methods of your choice.

Best of luck in whatever endeavor you
choose.

PEER LEADERSHIP

The Peer Leadership Program, in its seventh year at WHS, is in-
volved in a number of outreach programs. The major focus for Peer
Leaders is the sixth grade alcohol education program, where Peer
Leaders meet with sixth grade students in small groups discussing
alcohol facts, peer pressure, and decision making. Peer Leaders also
assist in Project Charlie in the elementary schools and tutor students
one-on-one in all schools in Wilmington. Also this year Peer Leaders
met with eighth grade students to answer questions and concerns
about the high school, presented skits based on peer pressure to
elementary schools, and in conjunction with the Medical Careers
Club, provided a meal once a month to the Bread and Roses shelter in
Lawrence.

FOOTBALL

The Wildcat Football team led by captains Bryant
Falzone, Bob Fleming, and Mike King just missed a
birth in the Super Bowl. Just joking. Although their
record didn't show it, everyday they practiced hard
and never gave up. They had some tough losses
during the season, but won the most important game
vs. Tewksbury 32-28 on Thanksgiving Day.

Boys Cross Country

Captains Derrick Stokes and Erik Engdahl and the rest of the Wilmington High School Cross Country
Team would like to thank everyone for the support during the 1991 fall season. The seniors would
especially like to thank Coach Kelley with whom they had the privilege of working for four years. The
Cross Country Team went 2-8 during the season, with impressive victories over Billerica and Methuen. In
league action, the team also had a strong performance against Lawrence. Although the record itself was
not so impressive, the performance of this group should not be overlooked. The team had strong
finishes in the Catholic Memorial Meet, finishing 11th out of 20 teams, and in the Class Meet where it
placed 15th. The highlight of the season for the Wildcats was when senior co-captain Erik Engdahl was
selected as a Merrimack Valley Conference All-Star. Erik ran well all year and topped off his strong
season with a first place finish in his last duel meet ever. With a young team returning next fall, the
Wildcats have a promising future ahead of them.

GOLF

FORE!! .... Well, not exactly. The golf team only had TWO wins but it was a nice
thought. The team struggled through the season coming very close in every match
played. Strong efforts from all the players made for another exciting season. The
team could always count on ironhorses Jim Mederois, Brian Oxman, Kevin Camell,
and Chris Crowell to help pull them through matches with strong consistent play,
while coach Al Fessendon always helped with his advice and ideas. The Cats record
was a disappointing 2-8.

against small school champ, Lawrence, and large school champ, Bil-

A and 7 record in dual meet competition was not indicative of the
quality of the youthful Wildcat team. Individually and collectively the
team did exceptionally well in major meet competition. A coterie of
talented sprinters and hurdlers excelled in the state relay Class C Cham-
pionship and northern Area Championship. Senior John Lynch, along
with Rick Blizzard, Tom Zaya, Dennis Qodin, and Dan Ballou were instru-
mental in establishing a Class C relay record, and in winning the Class C
four by four hundred meter championship. Freshmen and sophomores
were mainstays of the distance events and the efforts of Eric Flynn in the
javelin were rewarded with a second and third in the northern Area
League and Class C Championship.

The Wilmington High School Band and Colorguard en-
joyed a great season. They performed a halftime show
which started off with a Disney Melody followed by Tail
Spin, a drum feature, and finished with Voices That Care.
Cheers were always heard when the band marched
through the doors of the now famous castle. The best
band in the Merrimack Valley was led by drum majors
Kerry Cunio and Tammy Oakleaf, as well as director Ms.
Mette.
